The Mortgage Underwriter will be responsible for ensuring that mortgages are underwritten within lending policy guidelines and will ensure that loan approval is within the risk appetite of the business in accordance with Clients quality control policies and procedures and accepted quality control standards.
Responsibilities:
- In depth knowledge of GSE, Fannie mae, Freddie Mac guidelines and requirements
- Should have good experience in Analyze Income & employment, credit strength, property appraisal, check over debt to Income (DTI) and Loan to value (LTV)and all other information pertinent to the credit decision process on each mortgage
- Authorizing and underwriting loans.
- Reviewing and verifying loan applications and supporting documentation.
- Review approved loans/insurance policies to ensure that all legal regulations, required conditions, and company policies are met
- Research all areas of an applicants financial background, including employment history, credit reports, and banking and asset information
- Analyzing loan risk and requesting additional information as necessary.
- Making loan eligibility decisions and approving or rejecting applications.
- Reviewing and specifying loan conditions as necessary.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, company policies and guidelines.
- Uncover any undisclosed debt, cash flow issues, or other missing financial information
- Analyze financial information and create comprehensive risk assessment reports for each applicant, communicating findings clearly with team members
- Preparing reports on assessment findings. Mitigate company lending/insuring risk by carefully analyzing applicants information and making strong recommendations based on findings
- Documenting and effectively communicating reasons for the approval/rejection of loans.
- Returning applications with additional documentation to the loan officer for review.
- Work seamlessly with loan processors/insurance agents and other team members to ensure a smooth, speedy application process for potential clients
- Ensure that all loan/policy applications and files are complete and accurate
- Proofread files before they are submitted for approval, correcting any errors and filling in any incomplete details
Requirements and Skills:
- Proven work experience as a Mortgage Underwriter
- Highly organized and able to prioritize.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Detail-oriented with strong data analysis capabilities and the ability to clearly communicate findings through reports
- High mathematical aptitude.
- Good working knowledge of mortgage loan processing and relevant legal regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and automated underwriting systems
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Review loan files for completeness and accuracy
- Confirm application information against all documents within the file
- Analyze all credit documents, including, but not limited to, mortgage applications, credit history and income documents, title documents, appraisals and all applicable compliance documents.
- Knowledge to validate that a prospective mortgagors loan application adheres to the Investors , Secondary Investors (Fannie & Freddie) and guidelines of applicable government agencies to approve the loan
- Should have experience in Income Calculations
- Should possess analytical skills in reviewing the LTV/CLTV
- Review the eligibility of Property, Borrowers
- Evaluate debt ratio, loan-to-value ratios, credit score, property valuation
- Identify risk factors, including fraud red flags to determine or verify misrepresentation
- Condition files for missing/ supporting documentation as needed
- Test system updates as well as system changes as they occur
- Complete required trainings and assessments
- Ensure the appropriate and confidential handling / sharing of sensitive client data.
- Ensure all policies, procedures and guidelines are followed.
Required Skills:
Experience in Post Close Review/Under Writing/Other areas of Mortgages
- US Mortgage Experience in Either Post Close Review/
Underwriting/Compliance/ Post offer Completion & Core Servicing
