Key Responsibilities:
Transportation Planning and Execution:
- Collaborate with distribution centers, merchandising teams, and other stakeholders to plan and coordinate transportation activities from vendors to retail stores.
- Oversee the execution of transportation plans to ensure on-time, efficient, and cost-effective deliveries.
- Ensure effective and continuous tracking and tracing of shipments.
- Assist in executing and overseeing the entire order fulfillment process—from confirmation to shipment—for products destined for home delivery.
- Manage distribution center appointments and yard operations, including ship-to-home and club store requirements.
- Handle exceptions management for shipment issues, EDI communication, and related processes within the Transport Management System (TMS).
Route Optimization:
- Analyze transportation routes and schedules to identify and implement optimization opportunities.
- Collaborate with carriers and logistics partners to streamline routes, reduce transit times, and minimize transportation costs.
Carrier Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with transportation carriers and service providers.
- Support the preparation of RFPs and assist in negotiating contracts, rates, and service level agreements to ensure cost-effective and reliable transportation services.
Compliance and Regulations:
- Ensure adherence to transportation regulations, safety standards, and industry requirements.
- Stay informed about changes in transportation laws and regulations and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
Vendor Collaboration:
- Work closely with external vendors and transportation providers to resolve issues, track shipments, and enhance service levels.
- Collaborate with vendors, distribution centers, and stores to implement best practices for efficient transportation operations.
Operational Efficiency:
- Implement process improvements to enhance transportation efficiency and reduce costs.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Oversee the accurate and timely completion of transportation-related documentation, including bills of lading, shipping manifests, and delivery confirmations.
- Investigate instances of detention, accessorial charges, and related issues.
- Maintain organized and compliant records for auditing and regulatory purposes.
Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including supply chain, logistics, and warehouse teams, to ensure seamless transportation operations.
- Provide support to teams across the end-to-end supply chain process.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Generate regular reports on transportation performance, costs, and key operational metrics.
- Analyze data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to the optimization of freight terms where applicable.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Relevant and proven years of experience in transportation operations, with a focus on distribution center to retail store logistics.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Relevant experience in the transportation field.
Preferred Skills:
- Relevant experience in the USA or North American retail sector.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and industry best practices.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and other related logistics software.
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions to optimize transportation operations.
- Leadership and team management experience is an added advantage.
