Urjit Patel resigned as RBI Governor

Urjit Patel who has appointed as the 24th RBI Governor on 4 September 2016 has resigned on 10 Dec 2018 before his term going to end by Sep 2019.He mentioned in the letter due to personal reasons.
In the last 25 years he is the first Governor to leave the post before the term expiry.The decision comes days before a crucial board meeting of the RBI on December 14.
The below is the full text of his resignation letter:
“On account of personal reasons, I have decided to step down from my current position effective immediately. It has been my privilege and honour to serve in the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities over the years. The support and hard work of RBI staff, officers and management hasbeen the proximate driver of the Bank’s considerable accomplishments in recent years. I take this opportunity to express gratitude to my colleagues and Directors of the RBI Central Board, and wish them all the best for the future”
