CBI revealed crucial information in Delhi court about GST officers. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) says that there are various state GST officers who accepted money from transporters , through middlemen, for not charging Goods and Services Tax (GST).
This information came forward when CBI was seeking further 7 days custody of Gopal Krishna Madhav, a Delhi government officer and officer on special duty (OSD) to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in a bribery case. Madhav was produced before the court on expiry of 2 days CBI remand. The judge has remanded him to 4 days of further CBI custody. He will be produced before the court on 14th February 2020.
The middleman Dheeraj Gupta was first arrested on 6th February 2020 and sent to judicial custody until 20th February 2020. The agency has asked for both of the accused custody as the new information has been revealed now and they need both for further questioning. The accused were arrested on a complaint made by Jogendar Singh on 4th February, 2020. Singh said that GST officials were demanding ₹ 3.5 lakh bribe to get his trucks released without paying tax. Over this, the agency told the court that a trap was laid on 5th February 2020, and Gupta who is a private citizen was caught on the spot while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2,26,000 from the complainant on behalf of Mr. Madhav. Gupta was arrested on 6th February 2020. This was followed by Madhav’s arrest on the same day.
