From 1st April 2020, the government is planning to launch lottery offer under the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The scheme will be conducted by lucky draws in an every month , for the invoices of all business to customer (B2C) transactions. The said lottery scheme is going to be envisaged by the finance department so as to encourage customers to take bills for every purchase. This initiative is supposed to help the government in curbing GST evasion.
Under the scheme, the revenue department will conduct monthly lucky draws, which will have one bumper prize along with second and third prizes and same will be distributed state wise.
In order to participate in the scheme , consumers will have to scan and upload any B2C invoice using a mobile app, which is being developed by GST Network (GSTN). The mobile app would be made available for both Android and iOS users by end of this month. The prize under this scheme will range between ₹10 lakh and ₹1 crore. The best part of this scheme is there is not going to be any threshold limit , on the invoice value to be eligible for lucky draw.
The prize money for the lottery scheme will come from the consumer welfare fund, where the proceeds of anti-profiteering cases are transferred. Officials are expecting that the lottery scheme will encourage customers to ask for bill or invoice while making purchases.
