Considering the hardship faced by the taxpayers, A memorandum for requesting to extend the due date of filing of return has been submitted by All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) on 17th July, 2019.
The reasons specified for extension of due date for Assessment Year 2019-20 are as :-
- Updated Income Tax return forms are uploaded late: ITR 1, 2, 4 were made available for filing on 2nd May, 2019 while ITR 3 was made available on 10th May, 2019.
- Delay in getting updated Form 26AS and TDS certificates from deductors : This year many changes are made in Form 16. Due to this, the due date of filing TDS statement was extended year to 30th June, 2019 in case of TDS from salary.(Normally, the due date for furnishing TDS Statement is 31st May). Hence, employers have not been able to furnish TDS certificates and Form 26AS of employees.
- Many States are adversely affected due to flood: As a result of the floods the life of citizens is adversely affected and in those places even the Internet lines are also disrupted.
- Difficult in collecting data for Long term capital gain : The utility in Return with regard to computation of Long Term Capital Gain was showing wrong results which has been rectified only on 11 July, 2019 only. Also, it is difficult to gather the all details like ISIN Code/ Folio Number of all the shares, PAN of unlisted companies etc., which is required for capital gain in such short period.
Therefore, the memorandum submitted has requested to the department to extend the the due date for filing Returns under section 139(1) from 31stJuly, 2019 to 30 August, 2019.
