Courier companies such as FedEx, DHL and UPS face difficulty over delivering imported goods to customers because GST law restrict defaulters from issuing e-way bills.GST Rule 138E doesn’t allow an entity that hasn’t filed returns for 2 consecutive months to generate an e-waybill. E-way bill is mandatory for transport of goods worth over ₹50,000.
Import consignments of companies cannot be delivered without e-way bills. But the goods cannot be kept inside the customs premises once cleared.
Even local companies such as DTDC, Safe Express, Gati and Delhivery have petitioned the government about this issue. The government is examining the matter to see how it can be resolved.
