NCLAT bench in Chennai
National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, the Chennai bench will come into effect from March 18, 2020. This bench has been constituted to handle matters arising from southern States.
The newly formed Chennai-bench would hear the appeals arising against the orders of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) having jurisdiction over Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
“The Bench of the NCLAT at New Delhi shall be known as the Principal Bench of the NCLAT which shall continue to hear appeals other than those in the jurisdiction of Chennai Bench of the NCLAT,” the notification said.
With effect from June 1, 2016 the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal was established under Section 410 of the Companies Act, 2013 for the purpose of hearing appeals against the orders of NCLT.
The NCLAT also plays a big role under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code as far as hearing appeals against the orders of NCLT is concerned.
